Cherishing Life Beginnings Doula and Childbirth Services, LLC (CLB) was established in 2015 out of the necessity of:
1. Needing Cefrtified Doulas (specifically BIPOC) available in Columbus, GA and surrounding areas
2. The need of having support for homebirths
3. Advocation of Care for ALL women but specifically BIPOC women
4. Educating ALL women on childbirth and Breastfeeding
5. Providing jobs and entrepreneurial training for those interested in aiding with building the village again.
Maternal and Infant Mortality Healthcare Crisis
The United States is facing a maternal and infant health crisis fueled by structural racism that drives significant racial disparities in maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. Particularly affected are Black and Indigenous birthing people. Black women and American Indian/Alaska Native women are three to four times more likely than non-Hispanic white women to die from pregnancy-related causes—during pregnancy, birth, and up to one year postpartum.
BIPOC women are in the midst of a public health crisis and community doulas are literally on the front lines when it comes to the necessity of reducing infant mortality rates and medical abuse in Black communities across the country.
Why do you need a Birthkeeper (Doula)? Doulas make a huge difference in American birth outcomes. Research shows that people who work with a doula throughout the prenatal period and childbirth are less likely to have a preterm delivery or a low birthweight baby, less likely to experience postpartum depression, and more likely to initiate and continue breastfeeding for a longer period.

It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

Conceived out of the necessity of rebuilding the "village" mindset, Cherishing Life Beginnings Doula Academy, Inc. was born in 2021. We understand and know "it takes a village to raise a child" so we created a 501(c)3 grassroots organization to accomplish this goal.
Cherishing Life Beginnings Doula Academy, Inc. mission is to change women narratives of childbirth by decreasing and/or alleviating the infant and maternal mortality rate, decrease repeated or increase rates of cesarean sections and unnecessary medical inductions, by providing community birth workers for care and advocacy, FREE group birth educational classes, normalizing home births and breastfeeding, teen pregnancy assist and mentorship, and scholarships for aspiring doulas, nurses, etc.
The goals of CLB Doula Academy, Inc. are to promote the mindset of "entrepreneurship” and "the village mentality". To do this, we will create the following:

FREE training to low-income females, males, and teens, 16-21 years of age, interested in a nursing path, and in return, they will service there community for 1 year as they gain experience, knowledge, and skills.

Community Partnerships to create job opportunities, shadowing, and other essential tools to aid in the creation of birth worker jobs within the community.

A teen mentorship program for new teen moms and fathers to educate and equip teen parents with life skills, encouraging them to stay in school, and nation-building.

A Scholarship "Doula For Penda Birth Scholarship" for aspiring Birth Gatekeepers (Doulas).

Campaign Fundraiser
Cherishing Life Doula Academy is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization. We’re raising money to make a difference and further our cause within the birth communities of Columbus, GA and surrounding areas. To meet new challenges, we’ve set up this campaign with a goal of $150,000.00.
With your help we can provide more families with barrier-free services such as educational programming, labor and postpartum support. Your donation will also sponsor a student for one of our trainings, assist with the cost of finding a permanent home for our Childbirth Resource Center, create jobs by hiring birth workers for our Resource Center, providing FREE resources and services to mothers in the community, and so much more.
